Standards

Today that is not the case, accessibility, conformance has become a lucrative business with big companies carrying out audits using the international standards applied by The World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) and the WCAG standard.

We have a different attitude to what is accessible. Legal frameworks in the UK and US utilise this WCAG standard to force organisations and companies to provide an accessible platform or app.

We believe that the very people the so call standard was created to protect are in fact the ultimate tool regarding accessibility.

MV would also like to pursue an agenda around the following:

  1. Education around accessibility and conformance.
  2. Why it is important for websites and apps to be accessible for everyone.
  3. Conceptualise, design, and build with accessibility right at the fore from the beginning. It is as easy to develop a good website and is a bad website.
  4. Lip Service. The reality around disability is that people claim to helping and improving. People in power and or influence make statements regarding disability when it amounts to nothing.

MV Lip Service would like to pursue the following:

  • Individual testaments relating to personal experiences when they have been let down because of their disability.
  • Individual testament relating to support or lack of support in higher and further education.
  • Confront those organisations that have a direct responsibility to support disabled people and don’t do this properly.
  • The essence of the Lip Service initiative is to raise awareness about the failings which unfortunately happen all to often for disabled people.
